From /usr/ports/UPDATING:
20041107: AFFECTS: users of x11/kdebase3 AUTHOR: kde@freebsd.org To use GMail in konqueror, you need to set the browser identification for gmail.google.com to 'Safari 1.2.3 on Mac OS X', otherwise you will not be able to click on any links in GMail after logging in. You can set site-specific browser identifications via the Settings menu in Konqueror (Configure Konqueror/Browser Identification) or in the KDE Control Center, Internet & Network/Web Browser/Browser Identification.

I was reading up the changes in FreeBSD 5.x earlier and came across an interesting section about X.
X can be called ``X'', ``X Window System'', ``X11'', and a number of other terms. You may find that using the term ``X Windows'' to describe X11 can be offensive to some people; for a bit more insight on this, see X(7).I still haven't found a conclusive answer as to why the term "X Windows" is so offensive to some, but I did find a good arcticle on The X Windows System in the Wikipedia. Does anyone have some insight on the matter? I would especially like something documented.

So I'm sitting here, playing with KDE some more, and I thought Hey, I've got some TV shows I can watch. Let's see if KDE will play them. I'm pretty happy with the results. Kaboodle is playing my divx files without a hitch. I wish I had dual displays like on Goblin & Euclid though. Makes it so much easier to watch things while you work.

I've gotten to play with some more of KDE today. I still love it. I've found a style and color scheme I like. I've got a screenshot to show it off too.

KMix is a pretty decent mixer application, but it's defaults are annoying. By default, it sets all of your volume controls to zero. And if you have them adjusted from another program, it resets it to zero when you start KDE. I've disabled that now, but it took me a bit to figure out why the hold music for the gun store wasn't working. Last week, I set up our hold music to play off of Saturn. I stole/modified a shell script that runs through a directory randomly playing mp3s with mpg123. It works great, except when you install KDE and it starts turning the volume down. It's fixed now, but I hate it when it's something that simple, but takes forever to figure out.

So I've been playing with KDE today. I remember why I liked it so much. The feel is pretty natural for me, once I tweaked a couple of things. Most of the applications are great, although I've found a few I don't particular care for. Overall, I think KDE is the window manager for me.

So I've got the install for KDE3 running on both the home and work FreeBSD boxes. I'm compiling from source, so it's taking a bit longer than it could have. But due to the fact that I'm running FreeBSD-5.3-BETA7 and not a released version, I'm more comfortable that way. When it gets done and I actually get to try it out again, I'll have to post my review.

I'm trying to find a window manager that I'm comfortable with for X. I've played with Gnome2 lately and been using it. I still feel like something's missing though, but I can't figure out what. I've played with KDE3 a while back, but didn't get much time with it. So my question is, what window manager do you use, and why?
