A History Lesson for Jason...

I was reading up the changes in FreeBSD 5.x earlier and came across an interesting section about X.
X can be called ``X'', ``X Window System'', ``X11'', and a number of other terms. You may find that using the term ``X Windows'' to describe X11 can be offensive to some people; for a bit more insight on this, see X(7).I still haven't found a conclusive answer as to why the term "X Windows" is so offensive to some, but I did find a good arcticle on The X Windows System in the Wikipedia. Does anyone have some insight on the matter? I would especially like something documented.
