Stargate SG-1 :: Season 9 Episode 5 :: The Powers That Be

My first thought is "Oh no. Another Vala episode." (I'm
watching as I write this.) It seems that SG-1 has traveled to a
planet where a Prior has visited. Vala says the people of this
planet trust her. Once again, we'll break for spoilers.
The whole episode seems like it's a message of Technology vs. Divinity. I may have to watch it again in a day or so to decide if I liked it or not.
On the bright side of everything, it looks like Sam is rejoining the team next episode (according to the preview).
Apparently, after the Tok'ra removed Vala's symbiote, she fled to this planet to regroup. When she was still a Goa'uld, she controlled the planet. Apprantly the Prior said she would be exposed if she returned. They're left with the dilemma of whether or not to expose her as a false god or not. Their first response was to cage Vala and sentence her to execution.
They are going to have a trial, apparently in a process that Vala set up a few years ago. Instead of the "god" standing as judge, the people will be serving as a jury this time. Vala is being charged with the crimes of the Goa'uld that occupied her. After a quick negotiation, they changed their minds. They are still charging her with being a false god and forcing them to mine Naqahdah for her. Overall, the episode reminds me so far of S01E15 - "Cor Ai".
In the middle of the trial, a Prior showed up. It is the same one that tried to burn Vala and Daniel to death. Daniel and the Prior have an interesting discussion on Technology vs. Divinity.
After the Prior left, the whole town came down sick. Vala strugged to heal them all with a Goa'uld healing device. Common belief is that the Prior caused it. Ultimately it proved futile for her to do it. The hand device stopped working on the sickness. The base doctor, General Landry's daughter, took a team through to help. Daniel was afraid it was the plague that killed the Ancients, and that the Ori gave it to the Ancients originally.
All their efforts weren't enough. One of them died and Lt. Colonel Mitchell became ill. Then the Prior showed back up. The people of the planet bowed to him and were healed, even the one that died.
Throughout the episode we see bits and pieces of development of General Landry's character through interactions with his estranged daughter.
