It's weird. It happens sometimes, but rarely. I actually got the site migrated to use different software with no major setbacks. I've got all the topics and stories moved over. Now I've just got to finish tweaking the look and feel of the site.

Update: Apologies to those that had user accounts, but I'm not going to be able to move them over.  You'll have to recreate them.

I went to the doctor again today. They told me it's still looking good, and I can actually get it wet now. I'm not sure about taking a bath, but I'll probably borrow someone's shower instead. (I don't have a shower for those that don't know.) The nice thing was, they didn't make it hurt worse this time. It sounds like they might on Tuesday when I go back again. Something about using silver nitrate to burn off the "proud flesh" that's protruding from my palm. That's the part thats still draining. It sounds painful. It also bothers me that searching for "proud flesh" came up with a bunch of information on horses, but that's the term the doctor used. That part of my palm is where the drain tube was, so it makes sense that it's forming there.

But after I came home and rested a bit, I decided to go into work for awhile. I worked about an hour and a half, which is longer than I've been able to sit at a computer at home. I just get blurry, or start to hurt. It was weird going back to work, but I did get to show off my pretty pictures to people who hadn't seen them yet. I ended up having to go home though because my hand was really starting to hurt and taking more pills wasn't really an option while at work. It would have made me too loopy.

For those that like gory pictures, I took some more when I changed the bandage earlier. Enjoy or be grossed out. Whichever is your preference.

The pictures.

Went to the doctor Monday afternoon. He poked and prodded me. And then he removed the drain tube from my hand. That felt weird. It bugs me that it hurts worse after going to see him. I'm taking twice as many pills now as I was before (which is still less than they told me I could). They said it's looking good though. I go back on Friday to get poked and prodded some more. Hopefully the pain will go down again soon so that I'm not too high to go to work.

First, let me start off by saying that I'm going to be ok. And also that typing without the full use of both hands sucks.

So Thursday morning, I had a little accident. I tried to shoot off my hand. Luckily, Rachel has quick reactions and got it tied up in a shirt and callled 911 before I had fully realized what had happened. She doesn't really remember doing it though. I went to Mercy and spent sbout 36 hours there. They did some minor surgery and ended up 50 stitches. They thought they'd have to do a skin and/or muscle graft at first, but it doesn't look like I'll need it. I should also be getting back most of the use of that hand.

For those that don't mind the gore, you can check out some pictures in the gallery.

I found a link to this article on the A PARENT'S GUIDE TO ROLE-PLAYING GAMES. I thought it was interesting and wanted to share.

Concerns Christians Should Have About Dungeons & Dragons
(C) 1995 Jeff Freeman

In the past couple of years, I've made a point of writing fundamentalist Christian groups asking for information about fantasy role-playing games (RPGs) like Dungeons & Dragons, from TSR, Inc. I'm not just "picking on" Fundamentalist Christian organizations. I've written to other religious and secular organizations, government agencies and individuals as well. Only fundamentalist Christians consistantly respond to my inquiry with something other than, "Sorry, we don't have any information about D&D."

Don't know what came over me, but earlier I was thinking about how I should start using NAK in regular conversations. "In binary synchronous communication protocol, the NAK is used to indicate that an error was detected in the previously received block and that the receiver is ready to accept retransmission of that block." So it would go something like this:

*mumble* *mumble* *mumble*
NAK?
I said, "Are you going to go to the store today?"

I don't know what, but it really made me giggle.

I've been playing with PHP-Nuke for some other sites and I think I've decided I like it better than postnuke. The only problem is that it seems like so much trouble to convert this site over. I might get a wild hair one day and do it, but it'll probably be awhile.

I've been dealing with our Windows 2003 server(s) at work for almost a week. I think I've finally got the problems worked out so I can do the recovery I need to do. It's been pure hell. I didn't kill anyone though. I was suprised.

So this week, my email server which is also the domain controller has failed twice. It's a weird little problem that I've never seen before. Has something to do with the network card, but it's all on the software side. Rebooting fixes it.

I've finally decided that Windows 2003 Server's Clustering Service may be the solution to my redundancy needs. The problem though is that I've got to get the second server set up first and move over all of the server tasks to it, then reinstall on the first machine and tell it to be a cluster with the first. It sounds easy, until I think about how much work that'll be moving over all of the Exchange data and everything else. I'm not looking forward to this.
