I've gotten the change code working, but I'm still having some issues with the code for new stories.

Update: I seem to have gotten the kinks worked out all around, including the problem where it's making the articles have extra blank lines in the forum.

I was supposed to go see the doctor at 1:30.  I got about halfway there and got a call from Rachel that they'd canceled my appointment.  Fun.  Now I have to wait for Friday.

I've been trying to find a preexisting addon to give me this functionality, but nothing seemed to exist. I've got most of the code done to handle it now. It's just a little slow going doing it from scratch, and making notes along the way so I can redistribute the modifications. I've gotten all of the old articles handled. This post is actually a test to see if the code I just added to do it for new stories works.

The next step is to add an update code to update the copy of the story in the forums if the story is edited. I also have to go back and add some cleanup, in case a story gets deleted. Loads of fun, let me tell you.

Updates:

It appears the code still needs some work. It didn't automatically add the forum post. After a little more testing, it seems the code to add it is working flawlessly. I've just put the call to it in the wrong place. I've written the changecomments function, but it doesn't seem to get called right either.

I'm making a little bit of progress though. It seems to be an error in the sql queries though. I've had to go back and read a bunch of error handling and logging code to figure it out though.

I've just finished modfying and installing a new block for the right side of the page. It shows the photo albums that have been updated in the last 30 days. The modified version is available in the downloads section of the site for those that use PHP-Nuke and Menalto Gallery.

The hand is still not hurting as bad (but still hurts).  The problem now it seems is fighting nausea.  I have this constant urge to vomit about half the time.  It's really getting on my nerves.  I'm starting to think it might be the Lortab, but I'm not sure yet.

It seems that I'm getting back a little bit of the use of my hand everday.  For example, I can now type with all of my fingers except my pinky on my left hand, without being in a lot of pain.  My pinky still only has very limited movement.  On the brighter side, the pain has gotten a lot better.  I think I only took 2 1/2 pain pills yesterday, half a pill at a time.  That's a huge improvement.

I've just finished watching the first two episodes of the ninth season of Stargate: SG-1 and second season of Stargate: Atlantis

Both of the new seasons look to be pretty interesting (if you enjoy the shows at least).  I won't give any spoilers here, but it's always interesting to see what new twists they're going to put on old myths in SG-1.  I can't wait to see the next episode, which brings me to what's bugging me: three-part episodes.

The first episode of Atlantis this season was part three of "The Siege", where Atlantis is under attack by the Wraith. It was an interesting conclusion. Episodes one and two of SG-1 were the first and second part of "Avalon", which references the Merlin/King Arthur myths. It's really bugging me having to wait a week to see what happens.

This SG-1 season confused me at first, because most of the familiar faces are gone now, or at least moved to the background. Jack and Sam are both gone from Stargate Command now. It remains to be seen if this is where the series is going to "jump the shark". I really hope it isn't, but not many series make it to the ninth season without blowing it.

I've got most of the information migrated off the old site, except for users. Now I've got some plans on how to make this site better now that I've got it switched to PHP-Nuke.

I just came across an interesting article from ArsTechnica about how Sun is thinking about releasing all of their source code, including Java, under an opensource license. This ought to really make Microsoft's day after all the java trouble they went through.

Read the article...

I was just cleaning up my hand with soap and water, like the doctor said I could do, and I almost passed out.  It was really weird.  I'm keeping the details behind a link to keep the queasy of stomach from being forced to read it.
