I was helping someone set up a "chat room" for a website yesterday.  They'd found a module for PHP-Nuke that adds a popup java irc client (pjirc).  I had to modify it a bit to make it connect to a different server.  The version of pjirc it used by default was hardcoded to only use one server.

Originally, I was thinking about having them use DALnet, but after some thought, it made more sense to me to set up a HolosTek IRC server.  That way I could use it for other projects as well, such as OKC by Night, Mark II.  It's set up using bahamut, the ircd that DALnet uses, and ircservices, for NickServ, ChanServ, etc.  I'm still working on tweaking it to work the way I like it.  It's up and running now, though, with two official channels.  For more information, you can visit http://holosnet.holostek.com.  The site is not up yet, as of this writing, but it should be withing a few hours.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, we have this episode.  I had to watch it twice to decide if I liked it or not.  I hate to say it, but I expected the episode to have that tone to it.  It seems like this part of the season has been a bit dull for most of the seasons.  To me, it almost seemed that the whole episode was a justification for Vala to stick around.  According to the executive producer, this was a comedic episode to offset the seriousness of the last three.

I'm a little worried about the Vala character.  It almost feels like she was just brought back to replace Sam.  The new leader of SG-1, Lt. Colonel Mitchell, at least feels more believable.  A lot of the episode seemed to be about those two characters and developing them better, but in contrast with this week's Atlantis, the whole episode seemed really mediocre.

Speaking of romance in sci-fi, I'm going to be very angry if the don't give some closure to the Jack/Sam storyline.  I was thinking about it yesterday, and not that they don't work together directly, there shouldn't be a problem with them getting together, but nothing has been said yet.  I have an over developed sense of curiosity.

After finally peeking at the rest of the season (which I've been trying not to do), I'm not as worried about where it's going.  I'm just said there as a mediocre episode mixed in.  A bit of a let-down.

When I first heard about Atlantis, I was a little worried.  I remembered the last spin-off series that took place even remotely that far away from the original *cough*Voyager*cough* and how much I hated it.  But I've officially changed my mind, and I've even come so far to say that I think I like it better than the original.  In that sense, it reminds me of Deep Space 9.  What's really strange is that I've got Rachel hooked on it too.  She still doesn't like SG-1 that much, but she's seen all but a couple episodes of Atlantis.

This week's episode impressed me, unlike this week's SG-1, but I'll get back to that.  I thought there was a lot of really good character development.  I'm eager to see what becomes of the enigma that is Ronon.  In a sense, he reminds me of Teal'c.  I just hope it doesn't become a parallel story to Teal'c's.  And I don't care what anyone else says, I like to see a little romance in my sci-fi.  As long as it doesn't get too cheesy (like Captain Kirk's escapades).

I went to the doctor again today for my hand.  He said it's healing nicely.  The entry wound has closed up, pretty much completely, and the exit wound is working on it.  The doctor told me to start working on getting back the strength in my pinky.  I think it's going to be hard.  Most of that muscle is gone.

On a different note, I'm still amazed at the amount of narcotics they're giving me.  I told the doctor about how much pain I've had this week on the Darvocet and he switched me back to Lortab (7.5's, 50 pills plus a refill).  It kinda makes me grumpy though about how hard it's been to get pain pills when I've really needed them.  I had an abcessed tooth a couple years ago and didn't have near enough.  But, if you shoot yourself in the hand, they give them to you like candy.

And because I'm curious, does anyone know if they give a lot of narcotics for broken bones?

I've just added a humor photo gallery to the site.  I've been meaning to do it for awhile, but I kept forgetting.  Also, I've given users that have created accounts on this site permission to upload pictures to the Humor and Tattoo galleries.  Feel free to contribute.

I'm thinking about starting a betting pool.  it's called "What's going to go wrong next with Jason and when."  This week, in addition to the fact that my hand has been hurting a lot more than it was (which I believe is because the digital nerve is healing), I also have Pink Eye.  Fun.

The worst part is that I don't know where my glasses are, so I'm going around with one contact.  Makes the world fuzzy most of the time.  It's my right eye, and my left eye is dominant, so it isn't too bad.  But, it does make me nauseous in the car very quickly.  Working on the computer isn't that great either.

Ok, so it wasn't a three part episode like I thought, but it's close enough, since the last Episode said "To Be Continued..."

Warning: Potential plot spoilers below.

I just came across an article from BBC News, courtesy of Slashdot, about what would happen if Microsoft went Open Source.  I think my heart skipped a couple beats.

I came across an interesting article on Slashdot about whether or not coffee shops and restaurants should offer Free Wi-Fi access.  For the record, I'm pro Free Wi-Fi, especially since I'm going to IHOP here shortly and taking my laptop.  But I digress.  I thought this arguement against it was pretty funny though: (see I used though again)
I am not aware of any Internet cafe or similar business that got hit by our beloved RIAA but what if their lawyers subpoena a small proprietor for download records? If you are running a shoestring infrastructure with a cable modem with an Airport base station what kind of logs could you possibly proviide? If a kid walks in for a lemonade and starts downloading porn what do you tell the parents when they sent their lawyer to pay you a visit?

I'm feeling a little grumpy now.  My hand hurts, but worse than that, I probably won't get to watch the new Stargate episodes until tomorrow.  Makes me sad.

In the last 36 hours though, I've gotten a bunch done that I'd been putting off.  I got hardware moved around between my computer.  I got files moved around on Goblin that had been needing to be sorted out since I decommissioned Pluto.  It was mostly my software and video archives, so it wasn't too bad, except for the fact that 40GB of video takes awhile to move between drives.

On that note, I've also started a new page on this site that explains what each of my computers are and what hardware and software they run.  It still needs a lot of work, but it's a start.

Also, I think I've got Homesta done now, except for the a few programs that I'll remember to install when I need them, but that always happens when I reintsall the OS on a computer.

And on a completely unrelated note, I've decided that I use "though" way too much.  I probably use it too much when I talk too, but I don't notice that.  I'm trying to break myself of it in my blogging and emails (by doing a lot of proofreading).  If you catch me using it a lot in converastion though, feel free to point it out.
